coverdrive Companion Control Console

A Windows companion control console and radio interface for the coverdrive magnetic loop antenna controller.

Overview

Working with Omni-Rig, CDSidekick Pro reads the radio’s live operating frequency and passes those frequency updates to coverdrive, allowing the controller to automatically track the radio as the operator tunes across the band.

The application also provides a convenient desktop view of the complete coverdrive system. From one screen, the operator can monitor the radio and controller connection, operating frequency, band, stepper position, antenna selection, band limits, Near Band-edge Awareness (NBA) status and other important operating information.

Radio tells CDSidekick Pro where it is tuned → CDSidekick Pro passes the frequency to coverdrive → coverdrive keeps the magnetic loop tuned to the operating frequency.

Features

Live Radio Frequency

Reads the active radio frequency through Omni-Rig and provides live frequency updates to coverdrive.

Displays radio, controller, band, motor, antenna, stepper-position and operating status from one Windows console.

Convenient VFO controls provide selectable tuning steps and quick frequency movement from the desktop.

Provides useful manual controller controls while coverdrive remains fully capable of standalone operation.

Setup

CDSidekick Pro runs on Windows and connects the radio side of the system through Omni-Rig. It also communicates with the coverdrive controller, creating the live link between radio frequency and controller tuning while leaving the proven controller logic in coverdrive itself.

1. Connect the Radio

Configure the supported radio through Omni-Rig.

2. Connect coverdrive

Connect CDSidekick Pro to the coverdrive controller using the configured controller communications port.

3. Tune & Track

As the radio frequency changes, CDSidekick Pro supplies the live frequency information used by coverdrive for automatic tracking.
